PWMA was delighted to partner with the Arts with the Disabled Association Hong Kong (ADAHK) for “Hands in the Sand” (沙中同心), a meaningful community service initiative held at the White Lab Arts Hub in Lai Chi Kok.

Bringing together PWMA apprentices, industry volunteers, and children with disabilities, the workshop created a unique opportunity to connect through creativity, collaboration, and shared experiences.

The morning began with an insightful introduction by Tiffany Cheung, Manager of Social Enterprise at ADAHK, helping volunteers gain a better understanding of the disabled community and  practical insights on how to best engage and support the children throughout the workshop. Working side-by-side on sand painting lightboxes, volunteers and participants explored creative ways to communicate, learn, and create together.

One particularly memorable moment came when ADAHK artist with disability Chiu Wai Chi surprised a participant with an impromptu sand-drawn birthday celebration, bringing smiles to faces across the room and reminding us of the power of simple moments to create meaningful connections.

Beyond the artworks themselves, the workshop offered valuable lessons on empathy, patience, adaptability and inclusion – qualities that extend far beyond the classroom or workplace.

We were deeply encouraged by the enthusiasm of everyone involved and grateful for the opportunity to contribute, in a small way, to a more inclusive community.
