Community Service Program for Apprentices on 4 July and 11 July 2020

To engage the younger generation in community services, PWMA for the third year running invited apprentices in the Pilot Apprenticeship Programme for Private Wealth Management to come up with ideas for community service projects. This exercise successfully brought apprentices together from different firms and universities to collaborate for the common good.

Apprentices were asked to form teams and submit competing proposals, which were presented to a PWMA panel of judges. The winning team (see below) then worked closely with PWMA to implement their “Be Compassionate!” plan. Having partnered with The Hub Hong Kong, a charitable organization, their project aimed to empower disadvantaged primary school students in Sham Shui Po with higher English proficiency.

On 4 July and 11 July, around 30 Apprentices joined the “English Learning Summer Camp” with 30 upper primary school students at The Hub Children and Youth Centre. On a small group teaching basis and with precautions against Covid-19 in place, those students practised conversational spoken English in different themes such as interview skills and movies. Although only two sessions of the project could be completed due to the need for even stricter precautions against COVID-19 and suspension of classes in mid-July, it was still a fruitful and rewarding experience for both the apprentices and service recipients. We thank all the participants and organizing committee for their commitment to being compassionate and their heart-felt efforts on behalf of the community.
